Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung has requested the Vietnam Bar Federation (VBF) make more contributions to building a socialist rule of law state, defending justice and citizens’ legitimate rights, settling existing petitions and denunciations and opposing hostile forces’ sabotage.
PM Dung made the request at a working session with leaders of the VBF in Hanoi on Thursday.
The VBF should overcome shortcomings and weaknesses to be the common house of the Vietnamese bar circle, Dung added.
VBF President Le Thuc Anh said after more than three years of operation, the federation has competently implemented its role of a common house uniting the Vietnamese bar circle and a stable bridge between the Party, the State, society and the bar circle.
The national lawyers’ council and the VBF Standing Committee and leaders have jointly carried out assigned tasks with the effective co-operation of the VBF apparatus, Anh added.
According to the VBF leader, the federation has actively contributed to judicial reform, a socialist rule of law state and its assigned political task.
During the past two years, lawyers provided legal service in more than 32,200 criminal cases, almost 27,500 civil cases, 4,730 economic cases, 2,240 administrative cases and 493 labor cases.
Anh affirmed that in future, the federation will boost professional ethical education for its members, make active contributions to law building and dissemination work and pay attention to training lawyers.
